From the backstage: Imam Comunicacion

Montse Monsalve and Marta Jimenez are the lifeblood of Imam Comunicación, an agency dedicated to event and press management. Two journalists with extensive experience who have agreed to reveal us the secrets hidden behind the backstage of the most glamorous events held on the island. Wilful-but also charming celebrities, guests that are not being very polite, unexpected demostrations … Today Imam Comunicación open the doors to a world that can be crazy, but also very exciting: the event management in Ibiza.

When and how was Imam Communication born?

Montse : Officially the company was born on a Fool’s Day (which in Spain it is celebrated in December). Marta and I were working together in Cope Ibiza Radio -well, in fact I stole the job to her…but it is a long story. Although this, we soon became close girlfriends, she is almost a sister for me. One day, while drinking some cups of wine, we realized that there were no media companies in Ibiza and said to ourselves: “Yes, we have to do it “. We were with another journalist, Ana Fernández , who started with us at Imam Comunicacion. It was 9 years ago, but for 4 years we had more than one job, so it was a bit crazy.

You are working a lot in event management. Could you reveal us some backstage secrets?

Marta : The most important things always happen in the backstage, but luckily people do not realise! Most events look amazing outdoors , but notice that organize an event can take a year or a year and a half of work. And the day before there are always problems: people who want to change plain tickets (and it is summer time in Ibiza!), overbooking, a strike collapsing the city…all this sort of things.

Montse : Sometimes our work seems very funny and very glamorous . When you share a photo in the social networks  you always have to hear comments such us: “well, your are having a great party! .” But it is not true. The reality is that it is so stressful that after a big event I always get sick. You not eat, do not sleep, and the mobile phone is ringing all the time. A real stress.

What is the most complicate event you have had to deal with?

Marta :  Adib Catwalk and some movie premieres in Madrid. I just recently did the premiere of “Jack Reacher” , the latest film starring Tom Cruise. Typical example that if something cannot go wrong, it will.  There were several companies in the organization, we were all really super coordinated. But this day it was a strike , a demonstration, it rained … all at the same time!
Montse : My first Adlib Catwalk was the most complicated . Half an hour before the parade I was asked to present it. Hoarse voice, I had not slept, I had no prepared script …But the worst was that we had a VIP cocktail, but some people began to eat it all while the models where still on the catwalk. I coudn’t believe what I was seeing!

Well, by sure must be any kind of event that it is more relaxed and even funny…
Montse: Yes, last summer I was the hostess at Unic Chef and really enjoyed it! I usually I am very serious at work, but this time I had the chance to make jokes and have fun with the competitors…It was cool!
Montse: I enjoy at movie premieres.

You are used to work together with celebs, how is that? Do we have a story you can tell us?
Marta: I usually feel comfortable working with celebs, you need to be very polite and caring….But hey, I’m used to working with doctors, who are also very demanding professional … In fact we made a great relationship with some celebs, and even go out to dinner together in Madrid. But sometimes we also have unpleasant situations, celebs demanding impossible things or being not very polite.

Your favorite celebrity is:
Montse : Berta Collado, because we’ve already done a friendship . We usually eat together when I am in Madrid. She is so nice… And this  summer we met Carmen Lomana, who is also a charming woman.
Marta : Mireia Canalda is also very nice, is a pleasure to work with her.

The act of your life would be:
Marta: To organize our own event, only Imam Comunicación.
Montse: Marta, it’s nice ! That is, we want to do an event that enriches the island and the world of journalism. There we are !
